How to open multiple accounts of the same game in the same browser

Updated · 5 min read · by IdleDeck

Summary
  • The browser keeps one login per site: logging in with a second account kicks out the first.
  • An incognito window gives you just one more account; Chrome profiles work, but turn into one window per account; Firefox containers put everything in one window.
  • Before opening more accounts, check the game's limit of accounts per person/IP and its transfer rules.
  • A multi-account browser like IdleDeck isolates each account and shows them all side by side, awake 24/7.

Why the browser only accepts one account per site

When you log in to a game, the site stores a cookie (or a token in local storage) in the browser saying who you are. There is only one such space per site: if you log in with a second account, it gets overwritten and the first one is logged out. To have two accounts logged in at the same time, each one needs a separate space — that is what all the options below do, each in its own way.

Ways to have multiple accounts open

OptionAccounts at the same timeDoes the login stay saved? The downside
Incognito windowJust one moreNoAll incognito windows share the same session; close it and you are logged out.
Chrome/Edge profilesOne per profileYesOne window per account, each profile with its own extensions and settings.
Firefox containersOne per containerYesNeeds the extension; background tabs are still subject to background limits.
Different browsersOne per browserYesA workaround that does not scale: Chrome, Edge, Firefox…
Multi-account browser (IdleDeck)As many as the game allowsYesWindows only.
  • An incognito window works for quickly testing a second account. For farming, no: it saves nothing and gives you just one extra session.
  • Profiles in Chrome and Edge truly separate everything. The cost is the clutter: each account becomes a window, and with the window minimized the game suffers background limits (see why the game stops in the background).
  • Containers (Mozilla's Multi-Account Containers extension) put several sessions in the same Firefox window, in color-coded tabs. Good for staying organized; the game in a background tab is still slowed down.

Step by step in Chrome, Edge and Firefox

  • Incognito window: Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome and Edge (in Edge it is called InPrivate) and Ctrl+Shift+P in Firefox (a private window). Log in with the second account in that window. Once you close all the incognito windows, that account is logged out.
  • New profile in Chrome or Edge: click the profile icon at the top right of the window and choose the option to add a profile. Each profile opens in its own window, with its own login, cookies and extensions — one profile per account.
  • Containers in Firefox: install Mozilla's Firefox Multi-Account Containers extension, create one container per account and open the game in a tab from each container (through the extension's icon or by clicking and holding the new tab button).

With any of these options, an account left in a background tab or a minimized window is subject to the browser's background limits — and memory saving can unload an idle tab. The guide how to turn off Chrome Memory Saver for one site shows how to keep the tab from being discarded.

Before opening more accounts: the game's rules

Having multiple accounts open is a technical question. Being allowed to have multiple accounts is each game's rule, and that rule is what protects your account:

  • many games limit the number of accounts per person or per IP; some allow only one;
  • several forbid moving items or currency between your own accounts to inflate value;
  • VPNs, proxies and "antidetect browsers" (which disguise your computer to look like someone else) are usually forbidden precisely because they serve to get around these limits.

IdleDeck does none of that: all accounts go out from your own IP, with no disguise. It shows the per-IP account limit the game publishes and alerts you when you go over it.

Multiple accounts in IdleDeck, step by step

  1. Download and install IdleDeck (Windows 10 and 11) and link the app to your IdleDeck account.
  2. Click Add account, choose the game (or paste the address of any browser game) and log in with the account's credentials.
  3. Repeat for each account. Each one gets its own space — login, cookies and cache — and the login stays saved for next time.
  4. Set up groups by game, choose the layout (grid, main with thumbnails or focus) and leave it running. If you like, store each account's email and password in the local vault, encrypted on your PC.

Common questions

Does an incognito tab work for having two accounts?

It works for one more account, and only while the incognito window is open. All incognito windows share the same session, so you cannot have three accounts that way.

How many accounts can I open?

Technically, as many as your computer can handle. In practice, as many as the game allows: check the limit of accounts per person or per IP in each game's rules.

Do multiple accounts slow down my PC?

Each account is a game page running, so usage grows with the number of accounts. In IdleDeck, the Dashboard shows how much CPU and memory each account is using.

Do I need a VPN to use multiple accounts?

No, and in most games with a real economy a VPN used to get around account limits is forbidden. IdleDeck does not use a VPN or a proxy.
